- Heat water to 195-205°F (90-96°C)
- Grind coffee to medium-fine consistency (like table salt)

- Add Coffee & Bloom
- Add ground coffee according to calculator recommendation
- Start timer as you pour enough water to saturate grounds (about twice coffee weight)
- Stir gently to ensure all grounds are wet
- Let "bloom" for 30 seconds to release CO₂ gases
- Add Remaining Water
- Pour water to your desired level (usually to the "4" mark for standard recipe)
- Stir gently 5-10 times to ensure even extraction
- For standard method: Place plunger on top to create vacuum and prevent dripping
- For inverted method: Attach filter cap with rinsed filter
- Press & Serve
- Standard method: After 1:00-1:30 total brew time, press slowly (30 seconds)
- Inverted method: Flip device carefully onto mug, then press slowly
- Stop pressing when you hear the hissing sound
- Remove AeroPress and rinse for easy cleanup
- Enjoy or Dilute
- Drink as is for concentrated flavor
- Add hot water for American-style coffee
- Add milk for a latte-like experience
Troubleshooting Your Brew
Problem | Likely Cause | Solution |
---|---|---|
Bitter taste | Over-extraction or water too hot | Reduce brew time or water temperature |
Weak flavor | Under-extraction or too coarse grind | Use finer grind or increase brew time |
Difficult to press | Grind too fine | Use slightly coarser grind |
Coffee dripping before pressing | Cap not tight or chamber not sealed | Check seal or use inverted method |
Muddy coffee bed after pressing | Plunger pressed too forcefully | Press slowly and stop at hissing sound |
Pro Tips for AeroPress Excellence
- Temperature control: Lower temps (175-185°F/80-85°C) highlight acidity, higher temps (195-205°F/90-96°C) bring out body
- Inverted method: For longer steep times without dripping, try brewing with the AeroPress upside down
- Double filter technique: Using two filters creates a cleaner cup with less sediment
- Travel tip: The AeroPress makes an excellent travel companion: just pack whole beans and a hand grinder
- Competition-winning technique: Try the "bypass method” by brewing concentrated coffee then diluting to taste for clarity and complexity
Customize Your Experience:
The AeroPress is incredibly versatile-experiment with grind size, water temperature, and brew time to discover your perfect cup. The calculator provides excellent starting points, but don't be afraid to adjust based on your taste preferences and the specific coffee you're brewing!
